Miss. Saraswathi

Hi… coming back after a very long time!! Yes six months from engagement to wedding is finally over in a jiffy!! My god… in fact me and prabhu thought these six months would be really boring as he felt wedding dates should be fixed within 2 months from the date of the engagement. But believe me, I feel this is perfect to make the arrangements and do the planning to give this event our best shot.

Now I am here, with all the packing done and ready to go in for my last parlor sitting this weekend and waiting to welcome relatives and to plan in for the small things that might have been missed in the list.

So thought of sharing how the past six months were like for me. Well to start with I had quit my job last December itself as my mom wanted me to spend time with her before I left the house. The reason being I joined office the very next day after I finished college and from then on I felt I spent very little time with her.

The whole of December was bad as mom fell ill and I had to keep running from hospital to home, experimenting on the few recepies I had learnt to cook before that. But I should mention that prabhu’s support was immense at this point of time as he used to call me almost every day to energies me and to enquire about my mom.

I had a big sigh of relief when mom came back home hale and healthy. It was quiet boring until Jan 15 as I was not allowed to start shopping as people at home considered it to be inauspicious.

As most of you know I am avid shopper, I started first the hunt for a good anklet. Found a cute one at sukra and the rate of silver was just Rs 17 then, thus it costs me only around 750 bucks.

My mom was very particular that we get saris for all in the huge family that too silk. So we thought kumaran has much better collections in the lower range. This we finished in about one hour for around 20 sarisJ
Next for my sari… I am very sentimental about nalli, and so I bought all my saris from there only. I took about 7 saris including the kurai pudavai on the same day in just one and a half hours!! I feel it’s a Guinness record!!

I was very particular in stitching designer blouses for all of them so made sure I gave only 2 at a time and had a very difficult time getting back the same on time. So I am here pulling up my collars to say that I designed the blouse for the oonjal sari and it has come out very well. I felt the reception sari’s blouse became very simple and felt bad about it as I wanted it to be a very grand one. So once it was stitched I went on a hunt to get something that would make the blouse a little better. Got a few stones in the exact color at kasi Chetty Street and then my cousin came home with a cute grand lace that now makes this blouse stunning.

I should thank my friend padma definitely for having come to shop with me almost every week without saying “no”. Her inputs and suggestions helped me a lot to decide on each and every thing that I bought.

Then we went to “dreams come true” a bangle shop in prince plaza. I did not take much time there as I got the perfect set for all the saris without having to hunt much.

I was very particular about my accessories for the reception sari. Though I had pondy bazaar in mind, this time I thought of going to mint street to get that real good north Indian stuff. Both of us hunted in a few shops but were not satisfied much but finally by gods grace we got a set with exact color. Than god this was possible as my reception sari was actually a kind of pink that cant be defined and I am very much satisfied that I got it.

We both went to pondy bazaar again to get a few bangles, nethichutti etc as I am not that comfortable wearing hired jewellery and I wanted to wear only mine. When all this was done I did a small shopping for dresses, the casual wear type.

I went to Bombay in the last week of March for about ten days and planned to return on the first of April so that I will have time to start with invites. I need not go out much in Bombay as I went to meet my sister and take care of her new born, I just made sure I don’t miss those mouth watering pani puris and pav bhaaji!! My sister’s friend a Punjabi designer stitched a fantastic kurta for me. Believe me I don’t feel like wearing the rest of the dresses I have after wearing that~! What a fit and what lovely shape….. THANK YOU SO MUCH NIDHI !!! I also got a couple of tops from her to match my jeans.

Only after coming back to Chennai did padma remind me that I had not bought slippers for the reception!! Again we went on a mission to fountain plaza and a got a nice one with stone studded that matched my sari.

I was not very happy with the mehendhi that was done for my engagement and I had no mood to call that lady again and was wondering what to do when I saw one of my old friend doing mehendhi for someone’s wedding. This I saw as she uploaded the pics of those designs in orkut. What a fantastic work!! I decided it will be only her who will do it for me. Finally I contacted reshma who readily accepted and is also taking a day off for this! Thank you Resh…

The whole of April was full of invitation distribution. Starting from my U.K.G teacher to my colleagues at office I have so many well- wishers and I made it a point to invite most of them in person except a few. This crowd of mine who will be attending the wedding for sure is my “asset” as they have played a very important part for making who I am today!!

Now I am at rest for a week… all is done…. Prabhu and me spoke only once or twice a week for the past few month but this last week of April we both have actually spoke too much. Yes almost 2 hours every day!! That too from 11PM to 1AM!! Just received a call from Prabhu that he has just boarded the train J he will reach Chennai at 4 am this Friday the first of May. And only then we are going to buy his reception attire. I am praying that we get something that gives us utmost satisfaction as I feel its already too late!!

So this Saturday, I plan to go to the parlor for a final facial, waxing, pedicure and manicure…. (I have never done this in my life so far ;-))

From Sunday relatives have planned to flow in. need to make sure that all of them are well received and taken care of.

Reshma has called me to her place on Monday for mehendhi on hands and legs.

Just hope all will work out well and the event would be a grand success. Will come back again very soon with the wedding experiences and life after …… see you!!!
