In Love With Lyrics.......
I have a strong passion towards good lyrics. A sudden spark in my mind to write something about the lyrics in tamil cinema.
Film song lyrics are sometimes the best form of poetry. Some classic Tamil film songs (80s Illayaraja) and very few modern songs have that perfect mix of evocative lyrics, brilliant music, and great themes.
There are some times, when you listen to a song and it makes you forget everything. Most of the times it is the melody or the tune that impresses people. But rarely, people are mesmerized by lyrics of the song. I am not an exception and there are some songs which came out recently (May b from late 90’s) rivet me by the beauty of their lyrics.
“Ovoru pookalume” from Autograph and “Oh maname” from Ullam ketkume boost our confidence for sure. “Ini naanum naanillai” from Aei nee… beautifully penned by thamarai and composed by Srinivas himself is sure to make me blush. So is “Kannukku mai azhagu” from Pudhiya mugam and “Azhage sugama” from Parthale paravasam. “Narumugaye” from Iruvar and “Snekithane” from Alaipayuthe are the epitome of expressing love.
All the above songs have stellar lyrics that leap off and would carry the song even without their current spare arrangement of musical instruments. Though I like these songs in totality, there are other few which have a one or two lines of scintillating lyrics that personifies the whole song as such (in the order they released).

Who else could this be other than Vairamuthu for the film Mudhalvan

Written by upcoming lyricist Palaninbarathy for Aei nee… do not fail to compete with well established lyricists
Again by Vairamuthu for the film Ullam ketkume he definitely proves he is the best among the lot
One of the most emotive lines I have come across so far, from the film 7G
This song from the film Azhagiya theeye impressed me much. One amazing thing is that this whole song expresses love without using the word "love" or "kadhal" anywhere!!
This is from the latest film Dishoom…. Couldn find the lyricist tho

hey i like those lines too...
but in my topic i took lines especially from the latest movies coz u hardly get to hear lyrics that refreshes u.
i guess its becomin rare to listin to songs with good lyrics even though the tune may b gud!
